ICML 2026: Can You Trust the Orchestrator? Entropy Dynamics Reveal Multi-Agent System Vulnerabilities

A study from the Natural Language Processing Lab at Nanjing University, accepted at ICML 2026, reveals that failures in multi-agent systems often stem from the orchestrator rather than the executing agents. The paper, titled "Know Your Orchestrator: An Entropy Dynamics Perspective on Multi-Agent LLM Systems," presents a framework for evaluating the orchestrator's behavior in complex workflows. Findings indicate that increasing informational pressures on the orchestrator lead to incorrect decisions, such as assigning the wrong agents or prematurely terminating tasks.

Baidu's "Unlimited OCR" processes dozens of document pages in one pass by treating memory like human forgetting

Baidu has launched its Unlimited OCR technology, capable of reading dozens of document pages in a single pass, surpassing previous systems limited to ten pages. This innovation employs a modified attention mechanism that keeps memory usage flat, regardless of the number of pages processed. It currently ranks first on the most critical OCR performance benchmarks. This advancement significantly enhances document processing efficiency, paving the way for new applications in digital archiving and data analysis, thus improving how companies manage information.

AI search agents don't fail at searching, they fail at asking the right questions when queries get ambiguous

The new DiscoBench benchmark reveals that AI search agents struggle with ambiguous queries. Results show that these models perform worse, at 51.9%, when searching repeatedly without asking users for clarification. Even the best model only achieves 43% overall accuracy. Data indicates that removing ambiguity from queries can boost accuracy by up to 40 points. This suggests that enhancing models' ability to ask the right questions could significantly impact search outcomes. As reliance on intelligent search agents grows, this issue becomes increasingly critical.
