Meta Muse Glimmer brings local AI agents to consumer GPUs

Meta has announced the release of Muse Glimmer under an Apache 2.0 license, designed for local AI agents that can run on consumer GPUs. The 30-billion-parameter model allows developers to utilize it for local coding and function calling, addressing the operational constraints of cloud-hosted models that require network access. Meta's benchmark tests indicate that Muse Glimmer outperforms other models like Gemma4-31B and Qwen3.6-27B across five out of eight general-agent benchmarks. The model scored 75.5 on the MCP Atlas test, showcasing its capability to handle multi-turn requests effectively.

Zuckerberg Calls for Easing Restrictions on Open-Source AI Models

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has called for easing U.S. restrictions on open-source AI models, coinciding with the launch of a new model called 'Muse Glimmer'. This new model is smaller than its leading counterparts and is designed for agent-based tasks, operable on computers with a single graphics card. This move comes as Meta seeks to strengthen its position in the AI race. Zuckerberg emphasized the need for a reevaluation of U.S. policies to support open-weight models, as Chinese companies currently lead in this area, raising concerns about AI costs and data security.

Anthropic to Enable Default Automation in Claude Code Starting 2026

Starting August 14, 2026, Anthropic will set the default for its programming tool Claude Code to automation for Pro, Max, and Team subscribers. This change means the tool will no longer require developer permission for each step, allowing it to execute most tasks autonomously. The automation feature, which was trialed in March, enables Claude Code to carry out programming commands without needing developer approval at every stage. Boris Cherny, head of the Claude Code team, noted that they have been using this mode exclusively for months, emphasizing that human review no longer adds real protection.
