Tongyi Wan-Animate-2 Goes Open Source, and Alibaba's Character Animation Now Matches Commercial SOTA

Alibaba's Tongyi Wanxiang team has released Wan-Animate-2, an open-source character animation framework this week. This system skips skeletal pose extraction and motion feature compression, feeding driving video directly into a diffusion Transformer, enabling streaming at 24 frames per second. Wan-Animate-2 produces competitive results against commercial leaders like ByteDance's Dreamina and Kuaishou's KLING MotionControl. It also supports multi-character and multi-camera scenarios, allowing a single driving video to animate multiple target characters simultaneously.
