Cursor's agent swarm suggests cheaper models can handle most coding when frontier models plan the work

Cursor tasked its upgraded agent swarm and its predecessor to rebuild SQLite in Rust using only the documentation, without source code or internet access. Every configuration of the new system, which separates planners from workers, scored 100 percent on the test suite. In contrast, the old swarm struggled with merge conflicts it created itself. The results from Cursor's agent swarm indicate that cheaper models can handle most coding tasks when frontier models plan the work.

Opus 5 may have solved browser-based prompt injection, the biggest security flaw haunting AI agents

Opus 5, combined with Auto Mode, achieves a zero percent prompt injection success rate for browser agents across 129 test scenarios. Without these additional protection layers, the success rate stands at 3.7 percent. If these numbers hold true in practice, Anthropic may have addressed one of the most significant security challenges facing AI agents operating in browsers. This advancement marks a crucial step towards enhancing the security of AI agents in browser environments, potentially impacting how these systems are utilized in the future.

Mass Layoffs in US Tech Sector Despite AI Investments

US tech companies are laying off employees at a high rate in 2026, with around 140,000 jobs cut since the year's start, according to Financial Times analysis. This accounts for over a third of all job cuts in the US, with Amazon, Oracle, Meta, and Microsoft alone responsible for about 50,000 layoffs. This wave of layoffs comes as major tech firms increase their spending on AI infrastructure, with the top four cloud service companies expected to spend around $725 billion on data centers. Oracle plans to invest $70 billion in similar facilities, indicating a strong push towards enhancing AI capabilities.
