US Invests $4.2 Billion in Nuclear Energy to Meet Rising Demand

The US government plans to allocate approximately $4.2 billion to Vistra to increase electricity production from its existing nuclear reactors amid rising energy demand from data centers. This funding aims to support the uprates of current nuclear reactors instead of building new ones, allowing for additional capacity to be added more quickly and at a lower cost. Data centers and AI models require vast amounts of electricity, with projections indicating that electricity consumption in the US will rise by 0.9% to 1.6% annually until 2050.

Google researchers find a way to keep self-improving AI agents from memorizing their tests

Google researchers have developed a new method called RRSI aimed at improving the performance of AI agents. This method mitigates the memorization effect of test tasks, resulting in score improvements on unseen benchmarks by up to 4.7 points. Additionally, it utilizes about 30% fewer tokens than unregularized versions. The memorization of test tasks poses a significant challenge in AI agent development, leading to performance declines when faced with new tasks. By employing RRSI, researchers can enhance agents' learning and adaptability to new tasks, thus improving the effectiveness of AI in practical applications.

Google's new Gemini tiers cut free users to its weakest model and lock $5/month subscribers out of Pro

Starting in October 2026, Google will cut free access to its Gemini models. Users without a subscription will only have access to the smallest model, Flash-Lite, while Flash and Pro will be reserved for paying customers. This move comes as expectations rise for the introduction of the more resource-intensive Gemini 4 Argon. This change reflects Google's strategy to enhance paid subscriptions, which could significantly impact its user base.

AI 'less safe' for keeping secrets than most people assume

As generative artificial intelligence becomes more prevalent, users are increasingly relying on chatbots. However, recent events have shown that these systems can act unpredictably, raising concerns among analysts. Major companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta face challenges securing their environments. The security risks now extend beyond traditional data protection, as it is no longer just about keeping hackers out. Edgars Nemse, CEO of the GenLayer Foundation, states that AI systems can now take action based on data, complicating risks further. Users connecting AI agents to their personal accounts heightens the potential for breaches.
