DeepSeek Plans 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT Chips for Inner Mongolia Inference Cluster

DeepSeek, based in Hangzhou, plans to install 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT accelerators at a data center under construction in Inner Mongolia. If completed, this deployment would rank among the largest known clusters built around Huawei silicon, primarily serving production models rather than training new systems. This initiative marks a significant shift from earlier installations measured in the low tens of thousands. The Inner Mongolia site is notable for its gigawatt-scale power capacity, sufficient to supply electricity for around 750,000 homes, with conditions favorable for dense AI workloads.
