Data Center Companies Shift to Non-Traditional Locations Away from Major Cities

Data center companies in Europe are increasingly moving to non-traditional locations away from major cities to capitalize on lower land and energy costs. An analysis by JLL indicates that upcoming hyperscale data centers will be, on average, over 175 kilometers from major urban centers, compared to 46 kilometers for projects completed in the past three years. This shift is driven by the growing difficulty of securing land and energy in major European cities, with electricity supply becoming the critical factor in site selection.
