Alibaba has unveiled its Qwen 3.8-Max model, which features approximately 2.4 trillion parameters, positioning it as one of the most powerful AI models available. This release comes amid a competitive race among Chinese tech companies to develop open-weight models, with Qwen 3.8-Max trailing behind the 2.8 trillion parameters of the Kimi K3 model. Chinese firms are keen to promote their models by disclosing parameter counts, a strategy that contrasts with companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, which keep such details private. The new model was introduced on the Arena AI platform, where it achieved a high ranking in the text model category.
