AI agents do more of the work in model development, but humans still make the decisions

A research team analyzed 769 task logs from building their own AI model. AI agents supplied up to 55 percent of method proposals, yet humans made over 85 percent of final decisions. The authors noted that a third of the tasks would not have been attempted without AI. While agent activity has increased, this does not equate to greater autonomy. It is clear that agents play a significant role in model development, but they do not replace human decision-making.
