Anthropic Commits $11.6 Billion to Akamai Over Seven Years

Anthropic has committed to spending $11.6 billion on cloud computing services from Akamai Technologies over seven years, securing an option to acquire up to 5% of the company. The contract's value could increase by an additional $9 billion, raising the total potential commitment to around $20 billion. Following the announcement, Akamai's shares jumped 16% in after-hours trading. Akamai anticipates total capital expenditures of approximately $5.5 billion, planning to increase its capital spending for 2026 by about $1.7 billion to secure components needed to support the agreement.
