The expansion of AI data centers in the United States faces increasing structural challenges, with a Gallup poll indicating that 71% of Americans oppose their construction in their areas. Despite significant investments totaling $750 billion, 60% of the planned capacity to be completed by 2027 has not yet begun excavation and construction. A complex web of crises is causing delays, primarily due to shortages of materials and electronic chips, which disrupt expansion efforts. Additionally, data centers currently account for about 8% of total electricity consumption in the U.S., with expectations to rise to 12% by 2028, adding pressure on companies.
