Interpol says AI has become the "core operational driver of cybercrime" across Africa

A new report from Interpol reveals that artificial intelligence has become the core operational driver of cybercrime in Africa, accounting for 55% of reported cases. Financial losses from these crimes have more than doubled, increasing from $192 million to $484 million. The statistics indicate that approximately 600,000 cases of digital extortion involving deepfake technology were recorded, highlighting the growing threat posed by AI in this domain.
