DeepSeek examines in-house chip development

DeepSeek, a Chinese AI startup, is developing its own AI chip to reduce reliance on Nvidia and Huawei processors. According to Reuters, the chip will focus on inference workloads, where trained models generate user responses rather than training new models. The company has been working on this project for about a year and is in talks with external partners, including chip design firms and memory suppliers. They have also increased hiring for chip design engineers, although this has been done privately without public job listings.
