Austria Proposes EU Host for Anthropic Amid US AI Restrictions

Austria has proposed that the EU consider hosting Anthropic to counter US restrictions on advanced AI models. In a letter to EU Commissioner Hina Verkoenen, Austrian Secretary of State for Digitalization Alexander Brol emphasized the need for Europe to remain connected to major innovations. Brol highlighted the importance of exploring the establishment of Anthropic within the EU, ensuring legal certainty and access to markets and capital. He acknowledged doubts about the feasibility of this step, stressing that Europeans must be architects of their technological future.
