CATL Invests in DeepSeek: Zeng Yuqun's AI Energy Strategy Takes Shape

CATL has invested in the AI startup DeepSeek, raising questions about the motivations behind this move. This investment aligns with a broader strategic vision led by CATL founder Zeng Yuqun, aimed at integrating energy storage with AI infrastructure. Over the past year, CATL has spent approximately $1 billion on AI data center infrastructure and acquired a 49% stake in Zhongheng Electric for 4.1 billion yuan, enhancing its energy transmission capabilities. Additionally, it acquired a 38.1% stake in 21Vianet for $942 million, providing direct access to the data center operator market in China.
