Google Pay preps for AI agents with Universal Commerce Protocol

Google is overhauling Google Pay to accommodate a surge in transactions from AI agents. The introduction of the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) aims to standardize communication between AI agents and payment systems, eliminating the need for custom integrations. A new Merchant Commerce Platform (MCP) server will manage merchant integrations and analyze transaction trends, simplifying the backend for developers. This restructuring positions Google Pay as a central hub for transactions driven by autonomous agents.
